Landscape: Another Dimension

Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia

January 17 – March 2, 2014

As part of Landscape: Another Dimension—a series of four solo exhibitions featured artists from the Netherlands, Japan, and the United States—Adam Cvijanovic reimagined the landscape tradition through an ambitious, site-specific installation.

Adam Cvijanovic, What’s So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding, 2024 – 2025, oil and gold leaf on canvas.

Transforming the Miles C. Horton Jr. Gallery into a 3-D environment, Cvijanovic responded to the New River Valley with an expansive vision of an Appalachian uplands forest in late fall. Known for his monumental mural paintings on Tyvek™, a material more often found in construction, the artist createed an immersive maze of wood and mirrored structures lined with painted imagery.

Branches, trees, and remnants of autumn foliage shift and recombine through reflection, producing what Cvijanovic describes as a “fractal space”—a fluid, enveloping experience of landscape.
