The Bayou
PROSPECT.1 New Orleans Biennial, Tekrema Center for Art and Culture, New Orleans, Louisiana
November 1, 2008 – January 18, 2009

Prospect.1 New Orleans at the time was the largest contemporary art biennial ever held in the United States. It featured 81 artists at 25 venues throughout the city.
In the Lower Ninth Ward, a particularly devastated part of the city, projects were sited in poignant locations to send a deliberate message of hope and renewal for the community. Inside, wallpapering the walls of the Tekrema Center for Art and Culture Cvjianovic created a mural of a bayou, a marshy outlet of a lake or river signature to the souther United States. It’s beautiful scenery and wildlife brings grown and renewal back into the devastated spaces it once had overcome during Hurricane Katrina.
